O castelhano na ortografia setecentista portuguesa: Álvaro Ferreira de Vera

Resumo

This paper focuses on the work of the 17^th century Portuguese orthographer Álvaro Ferreira de Vera. Based on the survey of explicit references to Spanish language on Vera’s Orthographia (1631a), it aims to explore the meaning of those same references, especially concerning what they convey on the knowledge of Spanish and its role in the history of Portuguese linguistic tradition. This approach shall be undertaken observing the methodological guidelines of Linguistic Historiography and the theoretical framework known as the language issue in Portugal, on which the works of Buescu (1983a) and Vázquez Corredoira (1998) serve as main reference.
