O Modelo Biphon e a fonologização de traços e segmentos na aquisição da linguagem

Resumo

The focus of this paper is the phonological acquisition and the Bidirectional
Model of Phonology and Phonetics – BiPhon (Boersma, 2007, 2008, 2011; Boersma & Hamann, 2009). Since it is a model of L1 processing and of grammar that accounts for the interaction among three representational levels: [Phonetic Form], /Surface Form/ and |Underlying Form|, it is able to offer a specific view of the phonologization of features and segments. The paper discusses precisely the phonologization of the Portuguese vowel system by Brazilian children, that is, the integration of vowel segments into grammar based on the perception of acoustic cues which constitute phonetic categories and become the substrate of phonological categories formation; these categories are incorporated into
the grammar as features that, in a co-occurring way, comprise the internal structure of the segments of the language. The formalization of the phonologization process is based on BiPhon. The approach combines the phonetic and phonological levels in language acquisition besides capturing the gradation that, in this process, characterizes the constitution of the inventory of vowels that integrates the phonology of Portuguese.
