Francisco Suárez: Sobre la imaginación y el conocimento perfecto

Ángel Poncela González

Abstract

Departing from Islamic version of prophetic knowledge as a symbol and promise of perfect knowledge and final end of man, we ask for the meaning of perfect knowledge in Suárez’s epistemology. We discuss a number of issues that will emerge from the analysis of imagination as a power of the soul, intentionally inserted in a conception of knowledge supported on two bases: a theory of representation and a theory of judgment. The first is explained by species while the latter is part of the process of understanding onto the truth.
Keywords: Species, intentionality, imagination, singular direct knowledge, understanding, judgment, Suárez.
