La « conversion » au français de François Cheng et Hector Bianciotti

Adeline Liébert

Resumo

François Cheng and Hector Bianciotti, two writers « from elsewhere » have « converted » to French to write their work, with all that this word also presupposes in terms of forsaking but also confidence about the correctness of the chosen path. Both have lived their admission to the French Academy as a post facto legitimization of their career, which began in the extreme South for Bianciotti, and the Far East in the case of Cheng. For these two authors, the love of the French language and its « genius » is not synonymous with an enslavement which forgets its roots, but openness to the mystery of language, which they make more tangible to us.
