Conhecer a Nova Gaia – 4400. O hip-hop e a consolidação das cenas culturais juvenis em Portugal

Resumo

The aim of this paper is to present the results of an investigation conducted on hip-hop and the consolidation of youth cultural scenes in Portugal, particularly in the city of Vila Nova de Gaia. When addressing the issue of (sub)youth cultures it is possible to observe that they are affirmed through the adoption of a certain
aesthetics, posture and soundness, which in the case of hip-hop is above all the transformation of the movement itself into a political weapon that demands the right to a better life. Our focus, therefore, is on understanding how this cultural movement develops in the chosen city, as well as the role it plays in the identity construction of young people belonging to rap.
