Compor para Maria Peregrina: obras de Fr. Francisco de S. Boaventura

Resumo

This work represents a contribution to the musical and vocal analysis of two works composed by the Carmelite Friar Francisco de S. Boaventura to be sung by the young Maria Peregrina (1783-1806), educate at the Oporto’s Santa Clara Convent.
The works were composed respectively in 1794 and 1795 and are part of the
Holy Week Office. Expressly dedicated to Maria Peregrina, they reveal pedagogical
and interpretative considerations which demonstrate voice quality and expressivity
knowledge of the singer, such as the vocal range, the use of a more recited style or
the development of vocal agility through coloratures.
