Resumo

From the theories of gender and the notion of body as a social construction, the article discusses the image representation regime of the male body constructed as a discourse of power for the naturalization of domination over women and which served to reinforce patriarchy as a mode of production of subjectivity along with
social institutions. However, since contemporaneity, new images of the male body finally managed to escape the canons of virility and the traditional binary codes of gender representation, despite persistent macho and conservative resistance.
